Polini studies a new reed valve crankcase to house 3 or 4 stud cylinders. The intake of the Ciao is very limited and only carburettors with a maximum Ø15 can be fitted: with the new Polini For Race reed valve crankcase, it is possible to fit carburettors up to Ø21 with an adequate flow that allows better performance, with more punch to the engine. It is a crankcase made of die-cast aluminium, designed to fit Piaggio Si and Ciao. On both models it is necessary to remove the pedals. While on the Si no modification is required to the engine housing, on the Ciao it is necessary to slightly widen the original frame opening. The new Polini For Race reed valve crankcase for Piaggio Ciao and Si allows the housing of both 3 and 4 stud cylinders, but Polini recommends the use of 4 stud cylinders. It is possible to fit the new engine crankcase with the original electronic ignition, but Polini recommends using the Polini ignition and solid shouldered crankshafts. The reed valve has 4 petals and is made of carbon, while the manifold is made of rubber and fits either Polini CP or Dell'orto PHBG carburettors.
