Description
The Malossi range for the Vespa offers extremely high technology products capable of developing such exceptional performance increases compared to the standard, that the other fundamental components of the vehicle also need to be adapted. It is sufficient to compare a Vespa PX 200 E produced in 1978, which as standard develops 12.35 HP at 5700 RPM, with a Vespa tuned with Malossi Kits, which can develop 27.5 HP at 8000 RPM, i.e. more than twice as much HP at an extremely higher rpm, to understand that it was absolutely essential to design a clutch unit capable of withstanding the stresses caused by such a performance increase! The Malossi POWER UP CLUTCH SYSTEM clutch assemblies were created to provide an answer to and overcome all the problems that inevitably arise when the clutch assembly technology is not suited to the other engine components. A traditional clutch, having to transmit more than double the power to the gears, while at the same time having to rotate much faster, can lead to failure of the bell under the effect of centrifugal force, to slipping and deformation that translates into annoying and not very reassuring metallic noises, up to the classic clutch slippage caused by insufficient friction developed by the original plates, which prevents, among other things, the transmission of the entire power released by the thermal unit, partially thwarting its potential. The two versions of the Malossi POWER UP CLUTCH SYSTEM have common characteristics: Clutch bell POWER UP CLUTCH BASKET in high tensile steel with surface hardening treatment to increase wear resistance and, consequently, durability. TIG-welded reinforcement ring on the outside diameter of the bell to effectively counteract the centrifugal force developed by the increased speed. 4 friction discs with high-performance friction material. Recalculated and tightened coupling tolerances, especially in the connection between spring pressure plate and housing, to eliminate the annoying metallic rattling and help increase component life. The two clutches are actuated by a set of main springs with a high coefficient of elasticity, 6 in the bell for PX 125 and 7 in the bell for PX 200 E, and have a set of auxiliary springs, also 6 for the PX 125 and 7 for the PX 200 E, to be used in higher power configurations. This adjustment allows the user to adapt the clutch to the engine configuration, taking advantage of it at all levels of tuning and in all possible set-ups.
